When citizens have concerns regarding public corruption, misuse of taxpayer resources, civil rights violations, official misconduct, or neglect of duty, several reporting and oversight agencies may be able to assist.
Important: Not every disagreement, policy decision, or performance issue constitutes misconduct or a violation of law. The appropriate reporting agency depends on the facts involved.
If you are aware of potential illegal activity, fraud, bribery, or the theft/misuse of tax dollars by any elected or appointed official, you should report it to the Public Integrity and Special Investigations Branch of the Kentucky Attorney General's Office.
What they investigate: Misuse of public funds, election/voter fraud, regulatory corruption, judicial misconduct, and systemic law enforcement corruption.

If a local county official (like a magistrate, commissioner, or local department head) is performing poorly but not actively breaking a law or violating civil rights, state and federal watchdog agencies cannot intervene.
In these cases, citizens must utilize local civic channels:
Attend Fiscal Court Meetings: Present grievances directly during the public comment portion of Meade County Fiscal Court meetings.
Contact the County Judge/Executive: The Judge/Executive oversees local county department heads and personnel performance.
The Ballot Box: Under Kentucky law, the ultimate remedy for an elected official failing to satisfy their constituents is the next regular election cycle.
